Time Flies

Hello everyone, I come baring less than satisfactory news. There shall be no second part to the Zombie MMO post, due to the greatest distraction that is called life. Though the process of my vacation with my girlfriend, picking up the slack of co-workers and new games (No More Heros and Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command), I have lost the last few ideas me and my room mate came up with for it. Worry not, for more ideas will inevitably come.

In other news, during that distracted time period I did agree to script for two new web mangas that me and my girlfriend will hopefully finally get off the ground. The first, Heartfelt Blunders, is an anthro parody of our world and deals in themes of the sentimentality of life. (Also, the two main characters are sort of our alter egos.) The other, currently entitled Fish Town Blues, is an ecchi about a pair of sisters in a fishing town who run a tavern but can't seem to make very much money with all the town's wives jealously forcing their husbands away. Fish Town Blues, despite it's working title, is actually a comedy, and should prove to show off my girlfriend's ability to illustrate the female body. ^^

Also, for those of you who happen to be my peers in aspiring game designers, I finally jumped on the Design Challenge wagon over at Game Career Guide.com with Spoken Word.

Let's just hope that I at least get an honorable mention with my game "The Next Step" so you all can see it when the results are posted on the 21st, but if not, I'll go ahead and give you a preview here. If you should find yourself bored out of your mind, with nothing else better to do, try the following game:

Game Title: The Next Step

# of Players: 2 or more

Rules of Game Progression

-The game begins when a chosen player names an object, living or inanimate. (EX: a toaster)

-It is then upon the next player to name "The Next Step" that object would go to over any progression of time. (EX: into the garbage)

-Said step must contain a change in location and is permitted to change the composition of the object. (EX: into spare parts)

-Once a step is named it falls onto the next player to name "The Next Step". This progression is repeated until endgame is reached.

-The game ends when a player re-uses a step already used in a previous turn or fails to think of a new step.

-Upon losing the game, it is then the losing player's responsibility to start the next round by choosing a new object.

My Comments:

When I was thinking up ideas for the challenge, I knew I wanted to make a game that involved some degree of strategy despite being simple (as per the rules.) As such I included the rules for no repeating steps and allowing the change of object composition. This would encourage the player to be creative in changing the composition in order to open up new directions for the objects' progression. Also, a smart player might just attempt to direct the game by determining lines of steps that lead to trapping another player in a dead end.
